Working with files and MD5

OnScene Investigator can be used to calculate the MD5 sum of any file.

In the folder view window select any file and OnScene Investigator will calculate the MD5 of the file and place it in the MD5 column.


Copy file with MD5 report

Files can be copied and a report of the files MD5 can be created in a few short steps

Select the files you wish to copy.

You can use the standard windows Control click to copy files or use he Shift key.

Press the red and blue MD5 button in the tool bar

Once you select the MD5 button you will be asked for a location to save your files

You will also be asked for a name for the text report

Press save and OnScene Investigator will save all selected file to the location you nominated

Note the selected file and a report are in the file location nominated

The report will have the original location and he MD5 of the copied file.

The time, date and MD5 of the copied file will be recorded in the OnScene Investigator Log file. This will help confirm the file was in fact copied from the suspect and the time and date it took place. .
